Big day! Lots of good word goodness on the page, and a fairly big milestone – my last day in double digits. Admittedly, I haven’t written every single one of those 99 days, but I’m still writing, so I’ll count that as a win. Plus, I tripped over the 90,000-word mark, so double-plus-good-on-ya!
Still engineering the dynamic between the two main characters. It’s proving a lot harder than I thought. On the one hand, they get along so well — too well. So then I try to push in some conflict and they suddenly snap on each other. It’s that balance I need to find, that underlying tension that will keep the story moving. I mean, yes, the plot will be the main driver of the story. But I think next to that, the most important thing I can do is to get that tension between the characters just right. That’s what will keep the reader interested.
Friendship is also a key theme in the book, so it makes the high-wire act doubly important.
On to day 100 tomorrow…
