Catching the voice again. Very happy for that, but concerned as ever about whether or not it will work. I mean I like it, but it is a kind of dry kind of writing. Sorry, check that. Not dry as in boring, but dry as in dry humour. Kind of straight-man-to-the-world’s-comic, with a dash of healthy sarcasm to boot. I have to be careful I think not to make it too heavy. The goal is to make for interesting reading, but obviously not to weigh down the reader and make him/her think too much. Tricky.
Mostly narrative again tonight, though because of the situation more than anything else. I feel that I might be repeating myself in places, but still I think that’s alright at this point. I’ll put it all down and worry about smoothing it out in the rewriting stage. Besides, even the repetition is important I think. I can try the same ideas in different lights, and ultimately choose the angle that works best. It’s all part of the process.
Anyway, it’s late, so I’m off to Bedfordshire.
