Day 95 – Red Red Wine

Awesome writing session today. I actually wrote this morning – working with a fresh mind seemed to make all the difference. I laid down the scene I struggled with last night. It’s sharp and funny (I think) and really helps set the tone of the book. There will probably be changes to some of the details, but overall loving the scene.

I think I’ll be writing little scenes like that for the next few days. The thread of the story has sort of frayed in my hands, and I really don’t see a way to get it back without starting over with a stronger foundation. (There might be a way, but I really don’t see it.) However there are some key story points and scenes I want to get down while they’re still fresh in my head. I’d hate to see things get lost because I start the second draft and forget some of this stuff. It might not all work, but I’d like to give it a try.

Yes, I’ve heard before not to write things out of order. Perhaps I’m making a mistake doing so. But if I am, it’s an easier mistake to fix that to re-remember some little nuance – or some whole situation – that I’ve forgotten.

So, no more linear draft (for the moment). Time to craft scenes and situations, lay down a new foundation. Then sew it altogether in the second draft phase.

Whenever that shall come.
