Finally digging myself out a bit here — I had hoped to get some work in on the novel earlier today, but couldn’t quite get to it. Things are starting to clear up work-wise, so I may actually be able to get back to dedicating at least some time to the book (almost) every day. I’m looking forward to it!
I did work on that same scene again this weekend — talk about crafting a scene! I really like the way it’s coming. I mentioned in my Commas Gone Wilde post that I especially am at risk of over-editing. But in this case, every pass I do makes the scene tighter and adds another dimension to it. Soon I think I’ll move on from it and get to the next scene (and leave any further polishing for future drafts) but again, as long as I’m making progress, I’m in no hurry to move forward.
I probably won’t get any work done on it tonight, but tomorrow for sure.
In other news… I tweeted this the other day, but it’s worth another mention here. Rex Picket posted a pic of himself and Alexander Payne (who directed the movie version of Sideways) on the porch of Sanford Winery’s Tasting Room, circa (I assume) the time the movie was being made.
This is certainly one of the things I aspire to: drinking wine with the director who’s bringing my book to the big screen! If that doesn’t say “I made it” then I don’t know what is…
(BTW, still waiting for the hardcover of Vertical to come out… I’ll get back to you when I hear anything.)
